While most people have heard and enjoyed Gazza’s latest collaboration tracks with the in-form house and kwaito group Uhuru, never have they ever been on stage live performing these tracks, and the NAMA 2015 stage is exactly where it will happen for the very first time. Yes Gazza will perform at the NAMA’s and will feature Uhuru as confirmed by the NAMA Organizing Committee.
Gazza, is extremely well known by all Namibians and one of the most commercially successful and best selling recording artists in Namibia. Since the entrance into the Namibian music scene, Gazza has worked his way up to become a firm favourite in Namibian households with the young and old alike and has embarked on tours that have expose him to the rest of Africa and the world. His music can be defined as a mix of several influences namely Kwaito, Dancehall, Reggae, Hip Hop and his lyrics are about the township life. To date, he has released 10 albums, all of which have contributed to making Gazza the best selling recording artist of all time in Namibia. Gazza takes his influence to another level, and amongst others, serves as the Goodwill Ambassador of Education sanctioned by the Ministry of Education as well as an Ambassador for Team Namibia as well as the Back To School Campaign. Gazza believes that education is the backbone that leads to success and makes everyone’s dreams come true.
Uhuru, signed under Kalawa Jazmee is currently dominating the South African music scenes on radio and television with their fresh new sounds. Their latest single ‘Y tjukutja’ meaning shake yourself in ‘Pretorian Slang’ is currently topping the local charts. The group includes Maphorisa (Themba Sekowe), Mapiano (Nqobile Mahlanu), DJ Clap (Sihle Dlalisisa) and Xeli (Xelimpilo Simelane) have been generating big hits for big names such as DJ Zinhle, Dr Malinga, L’vovo and Professor. These boys have raised the bars in the industry.
“We always produce, search for different styles of making music and trying to stay on top of our game. We live and eat music but we are not where we want to be yet, we are not musically free. We are still under construction. We want to reach an audience beyond Africa with a live performance,” Uhuru says.
“We will continue to systemtically announce more big performances as we go along” said NAMA Executive Chairman, Tim Ekandjo who said he is already excited by the line-up of performances for this years NAMAs.
Ekandjo also announced that both the Friday NAMA Industry Awards and the main awards will be broadcast live on NBC TV. In previous years only the main award ceremony was live on NBC while both ceremonies enjoyed live streams across the world. This year both will be streamed live on the internet and on NBC because of the demand and thousands of request we received to air the Friday awards live
